Our Country Collection
The Design Story
Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it. Our skilled designers have a remarkable attention to detail, where they pick up inspirations from even the smallest things. At G.H.Hurt & Son we take inspiration from all around us, especially in Nottingham to inform all of our designs and collections. Our latest collection for AW19/20 was inspired by the great British countryside. Our designers took a lot of time working on the new range of scarves and snoods, taking inspiration from themes, colours and textures which make the English countryside so special. We really wanted to capture the true fashion of the country and create high quality knitwear which is on trend, innovative and quintessentially English.
Our photographers and designers explored Nottingham’s countryside and visited places such as Wollaton Hall, Langar Hall, Holme Pierrepoint Hall, as well as all of the breath-taking landscapes surrounding these beautiful halls.
The designers were exploring what makes the countryside so pleasing, including beautiful horses. Chestnut browns and natural shades of grey, charcoal and black. Nature provides such a rich natural palette.
Not just browns, but whites, creams, light blues and greys were also just some of the other colours that related well with the countryside providing great inspiration for the designers.

Head designer, Gillian Taylor, was truly inspired - most importantly by the patterns, colours and textures found in the countryside. So, Gillian and the design team then began sketching new ideas inspired by the country and started experimenting with fresh designs and relatable colours. The next step was for the design team and knitting technicians to knit prototypes, experimenting with tweed and geometric patterns as well as bold significant colours that remind us of the great British countryside.
Our design team captured that essence of natural beauty from each colour of the countryside and used it throughout the designs to create our new range of fashionable, highly British, country scarves/snoods. Gillian and the design team designed and knitted over nine types of scarves/snoods in alternate colour ways, patterns and textures that were a perfect fit for our new Country Collection.
When naming each of the styles of country scarves, the names were also inspired by the country. We decided to name each scarf and snood originally to show its distinct pattern, colour or texture. Few of the pieces were named after the Horse Trial Events: ‘The Badminton’, ‘The Burghley’, 'The Belton' and the ‘Chatsworth’ was named after the RHS Chatsworth Flower Show.
For ‘The Burghley' Scarf, our designers wanted to express a tweed jacquard texture. Tweed is a very strong and tight knit fabric, yet very stylish and suitable for our tasteful, quintessentially British Country Collection. After experimenting with yarns and designs this scarf was just one success out of our Country Collection, resulting in three different colours with such a beautiful texture and design.

Our latest collection of knitwear was showcased for the first-time at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials 2019. We will be at Burghley again for 2020 presenting our growing Country Collection.
