It was our great pleasure to welcome the Queen's representative in the county – Sir John Peace – Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, to the ‘Shawl Factory’.
A successful business leader, Sir John is best known for his roles as Chief Executive of local employer Experian, then parent company Great Universal Stores. Followed by spells as Chairman of fashion icon Burberry and Standard Chartered Bank.
Sir John was treated to a VIP tour of the Shawl Factory, where he met all the staff and learned how G.H.Hurt & Son manufacture fine lacy knitted products, maintaining local traditional methods, whilst innovating with new technology and ideas.
A business discussion followed, over coffee and biscuits.
Sir John is clearly passionate about businesses in Nottingham and will no doubt promote the county as a great place to do business. We were delighted to share stories of our local Handframe Knitting tradition and how we might develop in the future. He encouraged us to think globally.
